Titanium bar has good thermal strength, good weldability and
excellent corrosion resistance, but its disadvantage is low
strength at room temperature. It is usually used as a heat and
corrosion resistant material. Titanium alloy is widely used in
various fields because of its high specific strength, good
corrosion resistance and high heat resistance. Industrial
production of titanium began in 1948. The demand for the
development of the aviation industry makes the titanium industry
develop at an even annual growth rate of about 8%. At present, the
annual output of international titanium alloy processing materials
has reached more than 40,000 tons, and nearly 30 kinds of titanium
alloy trademarks. Titanium alloy is mainly used for aircraft engine
compressor parts, followed by rocket, missile and high-speed
aircraft layout parts. By the mid-1960s, titanium and its alloys
were already in common industrial use, making electrodes for
industrial electrolysis, condensers for power stations, heaters for
petroleum distillation and seawater desalination, and pollution
control equipment. Titanium and its alloys have become a kind of
corrosion resistant layout data.
Titanium alloy is a new important layout data used in aerospace
industry. Its specific gravity, strength and operating temperature
are between aluminum and steel, but it has high specific strength
and excellent seawater corrosion resistance and ultra-low
temperature function. The amount of titanium alloy in the aero
engine usually accounts for 20% ~ 30% of the total weight of the
layout. It is mainly used for making compressor parts, such as cast
titanium fans, compressor plates and blades, cast titanium
compressor casing, intermediate casing, bearing housing, etc. The
spacecraft mainly uses the high specific strength of titanium
alloy, corrosion resistance and low temperature resistance function
to make a variety of pressure vessels, fuel storage tank,
fasteners, instrument straps, frame, and rocket shell. Earth
satellites, lunar modules, manned spacecraft and space shuttles
also use titanium plate welds.
